DENVER, CO – Leon presents an evening with four outstanding female songwriters, coming together under the new band identity of "Dames." With performances by Melanie Jean Humphreys, Victoria Budlong, Gabrielle Louise, and Audra Rodgers, and an opening set by Brodie Kinder.
Each songwriter/member of the band brings in a unique style and contribution to the show. All are multi-instrumentalists, and many sound colors and combinations are created. While each performer takes turns fronting the show, all the ladies offer musical support throughout the concert, and their collaboration is truly charming. Their vocal harmonies possess the spirited delivery of a gospel choir, and their original songs range from evocative to delightful.
Victoria Budlong is the prettiest little thing you've ever seen holding an upright bass. Originally from England and now living in Las Cruces, NM she performs most regularly with The Blue Gramas, a Las Cruces band pumping out acoustic music that 'lectrifies the listener. For this performance, Victoria plays guitar as well, serving up soul drenched sounds in a husky alto belt. When she's not playing music you can find her farming at the Mountain View Market Farm.
Nationally touring singer-songwriter Gabrielle Louise hails from Boulder, CO. She will perform her original contemporary folk music on guitar, piano and ukulele. This appearance comes on the heels of a CD release tour for Gabrielle's new album, The Bird in my Chest. Versatile, vivacious, and completely unafraid to explore multiple genres, Gabrielle is at one moment folkie and ethereal, and the next a smoky jazz chanteuse.
Audra Rodgers will delight and charm you with the number of instruments she can coax a beautiful sound out of. She writes and performs on banjo, guitar, trumpet and ukulele. She can be seen plucking the bass, singing, and even playing lap steel. She’s just returned from a seven month stint on the road with the DAMN Union (Doña Ana Music Night Union), a 7-piece Americana/folk/funk band from Las Cruces, NM. Frequently smiling from ear to ear and dancing her way through her songs, Audra Rodgers shines with positivity and freedom.
Melanie Jean is homegrown from Las Cruces, NM, graduating first from Mayfield high school and then from New Mexico State University in 2008 with a music degree. She now teaches music at Mesilla Elementary School. Her original music features her performing on flute, ukulele, and percussion.
Opening the show is Brodie Kinder, who's sound is a unique blend of contemporary originals and diverse covers. His acoustic set is painted with the genres of folk, rock, and jazz. He delivers a mesmerizing performance with his angelic vocals and engaging stage presence.
